The carved jade likeness of a lion stands guard, forever snarling threateningly to ward off evil spirits. Although the stance of the guardian is masculine and menacing, his paw rests on an intricately embroidered ball which was typically a treasured gift of loyalty. Usually presented as a pair, the male is shown with mouth open (protecting the structure) and Female with mouth closed (protecting the life within.) Carved on his medallion is the Japanese symbol for “strength”.
Created with pen, Prismacolor Markers, and gel pen.
Artwork size: 8″x10″
For a more formal look: select the double-matted version of the 8″x10″ print which fits a 11″x14″ frame
